Haha, not really. More like local! Some of my goodies are now stocked in a local store, Little Sabine! How exciting! Never fear, if you're not local you can visit them for some online shopping! Check out the Little Sabine facebook page here as a good place to start.
To begin, you'll find a range of brooches, yoyo hairclips, kid's aprons, bibs, and blankets/change mats! Hopefully if that lot gets snaffled up there will be more in store soon! I'm very excited!

Wardrobe Wednesday
Haha, another headless image today I'm afraid! Gosh I feel like I've got so much to tell you, so much to catch up on, so much housework to do and so much going on in my head! I just don't know where to begin! So I think for now, I'll just wait. Perhaps I'll get a chance later tonight...

wool stash
There is an awesome secret wool sale going on in Nelson at the moment. An elderly lady is getting rid of her stash. There are hundreds and hundreds of balls of wool. It is amazing. I went this morning and picked up a few goodies including the candy coloured balls above. Some are so old they are 1 ounce balls! Check out those old labels. I'm planning on adding some cream yarn, a crochet hook and a few hours (days?) on the couch and hoping to come up with something like this...or this or this.
Oh, psssst. If you're in Nelson and you'd like the details of the wool sale, get in touch...

bad daughter
That's me. Well not really bad, but perhaps a little slack. I finally finished my mum's mothers day gift....
Let's just say this is the second version of the bag, and I learnt a LOT while making it. Frustrating at times, but good too. I'm pleased with the result, and hoping to turn my discarded first version into a new bag for me.

Wardrobe Wednesday
Morning!
Dress - Made by Me
Cardi - Farmers (hand me down from Mum)
Tights - Farmers
Shoes - Taylors (local shop)
Brooch - Miss Gunn (that link is old...)
Eeek. I've bitten the bullet and posted these pics in a large format today. Usually I don't like to make pictures of myself so big, but them seem blurry to me in a smaller size. I understand if you're a little scared. Just sit back from the screen a bit.

I hate vacuuming.
However it seems I must learn to love it, at least a little more than I currently do. You see, we've finally relented and turned the peg pit (when she was little it was home to all our pegs) into it's true destiny as a sand pit. A sand pit that is mere metres from my front door. And thus, my house looks like a sand storm has blown through it...on a daily basis.
But she loves it. So I will vacuum on.
PS. My brooch swap partner liked the brooch I sent her! Yay! You can see her here.
PPS. That vest I talked about yesterday is a Milo. You can buy the pattern here, for a very reasonable $5AUD.

more knitting
Gah. These little vests just seem to be falling off the needles these days, without much help from me. Again and again, I'm asking myself how many vests one girl needs. One of the things I've started in the last year is a 'gift cupboard'. When I see things at the shops on special or I make more than I need (likes these vests) I squirrel things away in the 'gift cupboard' for birthdays, Christmas, new babies etc...
I have a feeling there will be quite a few vests in there soon (there are already two!)

away
We've just been away at Carter's Beach, near Westport. It was nice and quiet.
I'd like to be back there.

Life's a beach :: when you're 19 months old
Today we took a midday, mid-week visit to a local beach. It's only 20 minutes from our house. It was, as predicted, rather quiet.
So this little one had the place all to herself.
Call this winter? I'll take it.

Rhubarb Pie
You may have noticed (or not) a lack of baking round these parts. I'm trying to eat a little more healthily and thus, have limited my baking escapades to special occasions. Last night we had some family round for dinner, and I declared this reason enough to make rhubarb pie.
I used a bought sweet short pastry, and the filling is made from finely chopped rhubarb, eggs, sugar, and a little flour. Simple x

Hot off the needles...
I haven't even sewn the ends in yet, but I had to show you this latest vest. I have a wee one in mind for it, hopefully her mama will like it. I think it's so cute, if I do say so myself! Raining, raining, raining here...thinking of some indoor activities for the tomorrow too by the looks of the forecast...

girl style friday
Navy jumper - My mum
Corduroy dress - My mum (hemmed and buttonholed by me to fit)
Tights - Farmers
Shoes - Hoofs
You may have noticed my girl only has one pair of shoes! Poor little thing ;) I decided I'd rather she had good sturdy leather shoes and only one pair, than lots of cheapies. So far, so good. She also has her gummies of course, for those messy excursions. I guess as she gets older she'll need more though...haha and if she's like me she'll have about 20 pairs before I know it!

Wardrobe Wednesday
Hat - Me
Shirt - Me (vintage fabric from my mum)
Cardi - Glassons
Cardi - Glassons
Grubby Pants - Glassons (grubby marks from my toddler)
Shoes - Taylors (a local shop)
I'm not really sure whether I like this outfit or not, but it will do. They are only clothes after all. The weather has been drizzly and wet, so its been causal outfits and pants and hats for me. I made this shirt, with help from my mum, about 10 years ago, with fabric she'd kept for years and years and years. There was just enough to make a shirt. I'm not sure it was the best use for the fabric, but I still can't think of anything we could have made instead. I love the print with the lady and her necklace, cigarette holder and crazy hat. She's awesome.

new hats
It was called to my attention by my daughter the other day that her special dolls did not have hats. And as it is winter and 'we must ALL wear our hats' - some new hats were in order. Do not look too closely, they took about 1 minute each to make!

girl style friday
White top - Warehouse
Blue tunic (was a dress last winter and I'm still squeezing her into it) - my Mum
Demin skirt - thrifted
Tights - Farmers
Shoes - Hoofs
Hairclip - Me
It's been a morning of snotty noses, bumps and grumps today. I'm looking forward to the long weekend, and having her Dad home to help with the entertaining! I plan to get some sewing done, go on a mission for some new supplies, and look for new clothes. Not that I can afford those last two things....
I think there will also be soup, movies on the couch, knitting and hopefully a trip to the beach with a coffee or icecream. Have a great weekend! x

on being a housewife
I'm currently reading this book, borrowed from the library. It's a history of housewives in New Zealand. I'm finding it very interesting, and amusing! A lot of the material is taken from the magazines and journals of the time (kind of like what our blogs are like these days I suppose). This is an entertaining, informative and well written book and I'm thoroughly enjoying it. It is also a very beautiful book. I'll leave you with a few images.
(ps - this wasn't a sponsored post - I just like the book :)

Yo!
Yoyo! Hairclips up in the shop now! I had such fun making these wee beauties! If you'd like different colours or fabrics feel free to let me know. This is the first listing from my 'one for me, one for you' idea. There are more items in the works, but you'll have to wait and see.
Have a lovely night! x

Wardrobe Wednesday
Not having much luck with the old self timer these days. So it's me with only half a head again. That doesn't really bother me though. Man, what is up with my hair. Am I growing it or am I just lazy? Who would know.
Cardi - Farmers (hand-me-down from my mum)
Dress - Postie Plus
Tights - Farmers
And yes, my stand-by necklace and shoes, I know you've seen them before. Perhaps I should have thought a bit harder before reinstating WW. I hope I don't get too repetitive, I'll have to go shopping (what a shame).
