Homework

So I was keen enough but a little unsure about Stella's homework assignment.  But after seeing her post this afternoon, it all became very clear and a lot less scary!  So here goes...

I am cheating a little if that is allowed and I am linking to this post as my piece of writing, about my past.

PRESENT : : a drawing (it's a collaboration)

FUTURE : : a photo
Yeah so I may have taken a little artistic license with the instructions...

toddler knitwear photoshoot

I made a couple of vests for my daughter recently.  This one is a milo (ravelry link).
And this one is completely of my own design.  As such, it doesn't fit very well!!  Too big in the shoulders...oh well, it's still fine for hanging out at home or playcentre.
How many vests does one girl need?  I really want to make another.

tunic

So I finished that tunic.  It turned out okay.  I hadn't really thought it through properly before I started.  It is quite short.  I can wear it with leggings, but with my red tights I feel like it's a bit too short.  Perhaps it would be okay for something like the movies, but nothing where I have to be picking up a toddler...  It is not the most flattering shape for me either, slightly on the tent-ish side of things.  But it is okay!  I like the colour because it means you can wear other colours like your mustard shoes with it and you don't look too loud.

lovely

I had such a lovely time making up this wee felt heart kit.  I won it late last year in a giveaway over at Ruby in the Dust.  It was so nice to make something up from start to finish and to have all the materials on hand, and not have to go searching/buying to get the stuff to complete it.  Instead of stringing these up individually I decided to join them and make a garland.  I plan to hang it in my daughters bedroom.
Making these hearts reminded me how much I love working with felt.  It brought back memories of making the pebble brooches that I had such fun with.  I think my next attempt will be a felt crown.

Easter

I've been making a few little easter and autumn themed presents lately.  I really enjoy the change of season, and I like to have little things around home to mark the occasion.  I made some felted acorns (using this tutorial) and then I made some wee easter eggs too.  We are not a religious household, but I would like it if easter was not just about chocolate.  I really enjoy little rituals and celebrations that mark the year, but not being religious I am wanting to find/make some traditions that will suit our own little family.  If you have any suggestions for things you celebrate in your home, I would love to hear them.

...and new daddy arrived the other week (aka 'the library lovers').  They have made themselves quite at home here.  Thanks again Dee.

colours of the season

In a hurry, before starting work on Friday, I tried to get a picture of my outfit for you.  They were all terrible, so you'll have to make do with feet, and use your imagination for the rest.

you know you're a blogger when...

You find a praying mantis has laid its eggs inside the pocket of your oven mitt, and then first thing you think to do is grab your camera.

pull yourself up by your bootstraps

That is what I said to myself this morning.  It has been a trying few days.  There has been work, and a broken down car, vomiting, rushing around, a car going to the wreckers, volunteering when you'd rather not be, trying to find a moment of quiet, more vomiting (and other delights), a new car, work trips out of town and this morning we added conjunctivitis to the fray.  But if there is anything that being a mama teaches you, its that you just can't take a day off.  You can't crawl back into bed and pull the covers up, as much as you'd like to.  Because there is a small person who needs your attention (and someone to administer their eye drops).
So sometimes, you've just gotta pull yourself up by your bootstraps.
This pic has nothing to do with the post, but I hate photo-less blog posts.  This is my first attempt at circular knitting, and my first cable....

sanctuary

I am a frequent visitor to this space.  I stand and stare out the window while waiting for the jug to boil at least 6 or 7 times a day.  I love this little corner and its collections of treasures.  To me, it is perfect.

mail

Today I sent a lot of mail.  I was paying it forward and saying thank you to a generous friend.

perhaps I was a bit hasty...

Sometimes a change is as good as a holiday, right?

its not you, its me.

So.  Things have been feeling a bit stale round here for a while.  A little forced.  I'm just not feeling it anymore, if you know what I mean.  So it's time for a break.  I mean, like, I'm taking my stuff and moving out.  Yeah, we can still be friends, but you know, I just need some space.  If I don't come back can I just say - its been rad.  Supercool.  Thanks for the memories.  But maybe I'll be running back knocking on the door, begging you to take me back next week...who knows.  Maybe I'll turn up somewhere new, in a fresh new blog...if so I'll pop over and let you know.  Or not.
What better way to leave it than with a song...?
